i don’t hate you personally for it, i hate straight and cis people in general because they make me live in near-constant fear of being attacked verbally or physically for who i am

basically, i don’t hate you personally for being straight/cis, but i hate straight/cis people in general bc they hate me personally for being queer.

what most queer ppl who say “GAH I HATE STRAIGHT/CIS/CISHET/etc PEOPLE” mean is not literally “I HATE EVERY SINGLE STRAIGHT/CIS/CISHET/etc PERSON ON THE PLANET”

we mean that we hate straight ppl (im just gonna say straight for this, but u know what i mean) as an institution: the monolith of heteronormativity that perpetrates violence upon queer people, which !!! even if you don’t want to !!! you, as a straight person, benefit from. like, i’m white, so i AUTOMATICALLY have privilege in society over people of color. this sucks and i hate it and it’s unfair, but it’s true, whether i like it or not. so as a white person who tries not to be a SHITTY white person, i see black people (especially right now!!) making posts about how much they hate white people, and i’m like, ok, that’s a SUPREMELY fair reaction to the situation of injustice we are experiencing and the importance of yr expression of frustration and anger as the systematically wounded party trumps any hurt fee-fees i may have in response to that expression. which i don’t actually have bc i GET that most ppl makin those posts do not literally hate every single white person on the planet, they hate the white institution that allows things like ferguson to happen.

so when eren makes or reblogs posts that read as “heterophobic” or “cisphobic,” take it w a grain of salt: xe’s not hating on individual straight or cis ppl, xe’s expressing the IMMENSE FRUSTRATION of being a queer kid in a world that immensely, immensely tilted against hir.

also in general w things like sexism/racism/homophobia/etc, there’s such a power difference that “misandry” (for example) or “heterophobia” just… aren’t even on the same SCALE as their traditional counterparts. like, a non-het person fearing or hating straight people isn’t a phobia, bc phobias are irrational. non-het people fearing or hating straight people is a rational reaction to centuries of abuse and violence.
